Clinical Sports Massage

This treatment uses a fusion of Eastern and Western advanced sports massage techniques. A combination of techniques will be applied to achieve a specific outcome. This treatment will aim to increase your mobility and joint range of movement; improve your posture and reduce discomfort or pain, which will therefore improve your quality of life. Improvements can usually be felt within 1 to 6 treatments.

Although a clinical sports massage treatment will focus on a specific problem, a holistic approach is taken into account, treating each person as a whole, giving an increased sense of well being to your health.

After an initial consultation and assessment, the following techniques will be used as appropriate:

Amma Fusion

This is a blend of the most effective Eastern massage techniques. This is carried out using firm gentle pressure with the hands, to release the energy pathways within the body, restoring health and vitality.

Advanced Sports Stretching

Various stretching techniques can be used to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment. They will improve flexibility, increase range of movement, and strengthen and balance the musculoskeletal system.

Hot/cold Application

The application of heat and cold therapy will increase the effectiveness of the treatment. Cold applications can be beneficial in reducing inflammation, swelling and pain.

Heat applications can be beneficial for increasing blood supply to the affected area, relaxing muscles, increasing ease of movement and decreasing pain.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger points are tense bands of tissue within muscles and tendons, which can cause tenderness and pain. They can cause local pain, or referred pain in a predictable zone of reference. For example, many tension headaches do not originate in the head, but from trigger points in the upper back or neck region. Blood supply is reduced to the area, and irritating chemicals are not removed. Treatment will increase blood flow to the area, flush away toxins and reduce pain.

Myofascial Release

Fascia within the body is the tough connective tissue that holds us together, and is a three dimensional fluid based matrix. It is primarily made up of collagen and elastin fibres, which extends throughout the entire body, and it supports, protects and stabilizes us.

When fascia is in a normal, healthy and hydrated condition, fascia has the ability to move without restrictions. However it is very common to develop fascial restrictions, which cause dysfunction within the fascia. This can be caused by physical or emotional trauma, such as postural imbalances, accidents, emotional trauma, or repetitive strain issues.

Myofascial release techniques aim to soften, relax, rehydrate and release myofascial restrictions, that have become dehydrated, stiff, inflexible and stuck, and restore mobility, proper alignment and reduce discomfort and pain.
